Whilst our very own SoundSavers II is being sculptured somewhere in the secret alleys of Homerton, we have no choice but to find other places to rehearse. Last night was no exception. Alex's car is also on the scrap heap so we had to use public transport to get our gear to a sub basement in Dalston, it smelt damply weird but contained some hilarious remnants of a time gone by.

..and it was actually quite fun.

We worked on new song 'White Chalk Cross'.

Tomorrow we record another new song 'Cut out and Keep'.

Oh and the stray 'Venom' plectrum is now mine.

I know the concept of year end music lists is a bit pointless and nerdy but because I read too much online music journalism and because VH1 was the only music channel that came free with my parents cable package when I was a kid and because the inside of my brain is basically just a series of graphs I think about this stuff quite a lot. Also how can it be a bad idea to share a bunch of stuff that you like?

So, with that disclaimer covered, here are the albums that I loved the most in 2010.

Just wanted to share two songs that have been blowing my mind apart. The first is 'You Won't Need Me Where I'm Going' by How To Dress Well and the second is 'Limit To Your Love' by James Blake. I love the production of both. Whilst a lot of lofi music sounds limited to me, How to Dress Well sounds brilliant because the lofi recording technique serves the purpose of the music and feels like it could be another instrument. The space between the sounds in the James Blake song has a similar effect, adding to all the sounds around it. And when the bass drops out after the 'limit to your care' part the lift feels like a relief.

So here's a video made for our song 'Elite/Corrigans' which we recorded in April this year.

The song was originally demoed in the summer of 2008.

I shot this footage in Brompton hospital, London, May 2010.

It was directed and edited by our good friends Harry Fisher and James Eyre

Here's a great essay by Colin Greenwood from Radiohead on the current state of the music industry and their quandry on how to release their new material. Very interesting stuff from one of my favourite artists of all time.

In other news, i just saw the first edit for our video for Elite/Corrigans. Its compiled of around 60 shorts i recorded on my mobile phone during my month in hospital in May this year. Edited by our good friend Harry and Jim. Hopefully have it up here within the next month.

A couple of tracks

Greetings. It's been a while. For those that know Jim he's home and feeling good.
We started these two tracks in April and finished them yesterday. Skateboard pt. 2 is about feeling good about what you have without wanting more (Johnathon Ross drove past in a ridiculous red sports car while we were recording the vocals yesterday. He was smoking a giant cigar and listening to that whistling song from Kill Bill really loud. He wouldn't have understood the sentiment).
I think Jim wrote the lyrics to Elite/Corrigans in some kind of psychic vision of his own future. Check out the four part harmony in the middle, gets me every time.
